The One Promoting Two Great Events

I will take this time for a little shameless self-promotion (of sorts). I am a part of two really great events that will happen in May and there is an opportunity for you to play along there also!

Austin Student Digital Film Festival - In it's 9th year now, the film festival went digital this year!! We are now accepting films from students and (new for this year) teachers. The global idea is to encourage the use of filmmaking in the classroom to enrich instruction and teach visual literacy to the students. And besides, it's just so dang fun!  Visit our website for entry guidelines and view a few of our past student films while you are there.

Texas Discovery Educator Network PhotoWalk - Taking pictures can be fun, but doing so in a group can be, um, funner. The Tx DEN is hosting a social gathering on May 1st and we're inviting teachers to come and enjoy honing their photographer skills and meeting other teachers from around the Austin area. There's also a photowalk running simultaneously in Houston and Dallas. Hit the link for more info and the registration link.

What images have you captured lately? Have you actively thought about framing your photos when you take them? One key for great photos is using the elements of your composition to frame the main idea in your picture.  Use a tree branch, a person in the foreground, a pair of buildings, etc to help direct the viewer's eye. This site does a good job of laying out 'framing' a composition. Have fun!
